    KIDCITY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

SAFETY & SECURITY: The security and safety of our kids is our top priority. The only way to ensure a safe environment is for each of us to do our part in observing these guidelines. ● Volunteers should never be in a KidCity room or environment without proper identification. Team Members will check-in at one of the volunteer stations and wear the printed name tag in a visible location on their shirt. ● Any parent in the environment to pick up or drop off their child is required to have a claim tag with a security code on it. Parents without a claim tag can visit the registration desk to obtain one. NO child is to be released without a claim tag … no matter how well you may know them. ● If you ever notice a suspicious person and they cannot produce a parent claim tag, please notify a point person, staff or security team immediately. ● Children should never be left unattended while checked into KidCity. Team members should never be alone with a child under any circumstance. In the event that you find yourself alone with a child, take the child to a room occupied by others or to a location easily observed by others. There should always be at least two adult team members in every space. Find a member of the staff team immediately if for some reason you find yourself alone with a child. ● Church of the City has zero tolerance for abuse in KidCity. It is the responsibility of every team member to act in the best interest of all children. In the event that team members observe any inappropriate behaviors (i.e. policy violations, neglectful supervision, poor role- modeling, etc.) or suspected abuse (physical, emotional, spiritual, or sexual) it is their responsibility to immediately report their observations to a staff team member. ● No form of physical discipline is acceptable. If a child is having a hard time/being disruptive, please follow these steps: 1. Attempt to redirect them with a different toy or activity. 2. Ask them to sit down to get some time and space from other children. 3. Report to a staff member. ● In all instances of a lost child, notify a staff member immediately. ● Social Media - In an effort to keep our children safe and to respect the privacy of our families, we ask that you do not take photos nor post on social media while in KidCity. ● Physical contact with kids should be limited. β—‹ If a child must be picked up or held, it must be done by someone 16 or older. Walkers through age 5 kids should only be held or picked up if they are upset or inconsolable. β—‹ Children preschool and younger may want or need the security of a leader’s lap. At no time should a child be in the center of a lap or between the legs, regardless of the gender or relationship to the adult or leader. Instead, have them sit facing forward with both of their legs to one side of you. β—‹ Hugs need to be not only appropriate, but mutual. Kisses are not appropriate in the KidCity environment. ● In the event that a child soils his/her clothing, check the child’s bag to see if extra clothing has been provided. If not, place soiled clothing in a bag and return to the child’s bag. We will then loan clean clothing to the child from the KidCity supply. Make a note on the attendance sheet in order to inform parents at pick up. ● All toys are washed and sanitized after the last service. ● Please wash or sanitize hands before and after eating, before and after changing every diaper, after helping a child in the bathroom and after wiping and blowing noses. ● For the health and safety of our KidCity friends, we cannot accept any child with: β—‹ A fever within the past 24 hours. β—‹ Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours. β—‹ Croup. β—‹ Any skin infection, boils, ringworm, impetigo or other unexplained rash or skin condition. β—‹ Pink eye or other eye infection. β—‹ Hand Foot and Mouth β—‹ Lice Parents will be contacted if any of these symptoms are noticed in KidCity. ● KidCity is a nut-free environment. No HOT drinks are allowed into KidCity classrooms. DIAPERING & RESTROOM POLICIES: DIAPERING: In order to communicate to parents our care for their child, please make sure that every child goes home with a clean and dry diaper. Diapering should be done at designated stations and in close proximity to other adults by fully approved and trained volunteers. You must be 16+ to change diapers and be female. Please observe the following guidelines: ● Never diaper a child alone in the room. ● Change diapers only on the changing pad and nowhere else in the room. ● Never leave a child unattended on the changing table. ● Wash hands and use a clean pair of gloves provided with each child. ● Use diapers/wipes that the parent supplies if possible. Only use diaper cream if provided by the parents. ● Use wipes on every child you change. ● If while changing a child, you notice the diapering area is oozing, bleeding or concerning in any way, immediately notify your leader. ● Place each soiled diaper in an individual bag and dispose of it. ● Please thoroughly clean the changing pad with antibacterial wipes provided. Throw away dirty gloves and wash your hands every time. PRESCHOOL RESTROOM POLICY: Please follow these procedures for the safety and protection of both yourself and our kids: ● Never be alone with a child in the restroom. ● Restroom doors should remain open. ● There should only be one child at a time in the restroom. ● Assist with any necessary clothing in an open doorway before they enter the restroom. ● Encourage the child to do as much for himself or herself as possible. ● Stand with your foot just inside the door to monitor the needs of the child. ● In the event that the child needs assistance, leave the door open and ask another team member to stand in your place. This ensures that both the restroom and classroom are always visible. ELEMENTARY RESTROOM POLICY: If a staff member is not available, a leader 16+ can walk the student to the bathroom. Never leave a small group unattended Walk the student down the staff hallway to the front office lobby. The leader should stand at the front desk while the student goes to the bathroom. These areas are under camera surveillance and provide protection for both the leader and the student. Under no circumstances should a leader enter the bathroom with a student. If a student needs wardrobe help, you must get another leader to come help you. TEAM MEMBER HUDDLE: Elementary Huddles occur at 8:35 & 10:35 am every Sunday in the Theater. Preschool Huddle is only at 8:35 inside the Preschool hallway. We will meet together to pray and go over any relevant details for the day. It is a great time to connect with other volunteers and build community. CURRICULUM: Each week we are entrusted with not only the care but also the instruction of children. Our goal is to build a foundation of Biblical truth within their lives. Curriculum is provided for all services to children ages two and older. Please review the curriculum prior to your service so you are well prepared to fulfill your role. The curriculum provides everything you need for your service. Let loose, have fun, sing aloud, act something out! Model the behavior you hope to see from the kids and let them see your excitement. At the end of the service, please return all curriculum, craft supplies, etc. to their appropriate bins or tables so they will be ready and available for the leaders at the next service. NEEDS DURING THE SERVICE: If you need something during the service, please contact the point person or a staff member. All Preschool rooms have a walkie-talkie in order to reach the appropriate person. Our desire is that you have everything you need to succeed. For accountability and safety purposes, never leave a fellow leader alone with children if a need arises. Examples would be discipline issues, illness of a child, supplies needed, etc. EMERGENCIES & INJURIES: Please contact the point person or staff member for emergencies, or if a child is injured in any way. If necessary, call 911 immediately. An incident report will be completed on all injuries. Please be observant, as the KidCity staff member will ask you for specific details regarding the incident. TEAM MEMBER DRESS: We want to dress for KidCity in a way that considers the main goals & participants of the ministry and which accommodates our floor-sitting, waist-bending, worship-jumping, crawling, squatting, leaning selves. Thank you for remembering to use wisdom and discretion in your clothing choices, including logos, words and illustrations, length of shirts, necklines and shorts, and whether or not dresses and skirts are helpful or appropriate. PHONES IN KIDCITY: Leaders are allowed to have their phones with them for emergency purposes and for the occasional use of timers during small group activities. We ask that you refrain from using phones for personal use while you are leading in KidCity. We ask that you not take photos nor post on social media while in KidCity.
